Presented for sale is an absolutely fabulous Longines 10 carat gold filled gentlemans' Art Deco watch in excellent overall condition and manufactured in 1959. This fifty year old watch has a gorgeous Art Deco case in great condition, the newly restored lightly textured dial looks almost new and the freshly serviced movement is running perfectly and keeping time. A new crystal has just been fitted as well as a new leather strap so everything has been done to this watch to ensure it is ready for immediate use.  If you are looking for a classic Art Deco vintage watch that will look stunning on the wrist then you will be very pleased with this timepiece. Triple signed on the dial, case and movement, as with all of my watches, authenticity is backed by a full money refund guarantee.

The Longines signed dial has a lightly textured finish and is near mint, having just been professionally restored.  Bearing the longines winged emblem below the Longines signature, gold coloured batons mark the hours and a recessed subsidiary seconds dial is located just above six o'clock The elegant gold hands in fine shape and the newly fitted crystal is clean and clear.

The 10 carat gold filled case is in very good condition indeed with the expected signs of careful and probably infrequent use over the years but nothing of any significance that I could see to draw to your attention. The outside of the case is marked "10K Gold Filled".  Looking inside the cover, it is Longines signed.  The case measures approximately 36 mm from lug to lug and 28 mm across at the widest point but excluding the crown.

The clean and bright Longines 23Z caliber manual movement has 17 jewels set in solid gold casings.  It  is running perfectly and keeping time.  The mechanism has just been professionally serviced so it is running perfectly and keeping time. Many newly acquired vintage watches need this work before they can be brought into regular use and as a service can cost £100 or more, please factor in that this work has already been done when bidding. The movement number is 10968896, dating the manufacture of this watch to the 1959.

The watch is fitted with a new generic brown crocodile grain strap.

In great condition, this watch listed for sale provides a rare opportunity to purchase a fully serviced and restored vintage watch that will look fabulous when worn and should give years of reliable service, provided it is serviced as and when required, normally every four years or so.  Longines watches are becoming more and more appreciated for their quality and elegance. This one will make a great investment and a lovely vintage watch to wear.

Longines History

Longines is one of the few 19th century companies still producing watches today. The founders started up in 1833 and the Longines trademark was first used in 1866. It may surprise some people to hear that Longines was the first watchmaker to have been classified at one or other of the four government observatories and the company won many awards for the accuracy of their watches.  By 1950, Longines watches had won ten Grand Prizes and twenty eight Gold Medal Awards at World's Fair and International Expositions, each won in competition with the word's leading watchmakers.   Longines timepieces were used to time the majority of world's records in major sporting events. Practically all of the great pioneer flights were navigated with Longines watches, including the famous Lindbergh flight in 1927. The Lindbergh aviation watch produced in 1933 was based on Lindbergh's own design.  Today Longines watches are still highly sought after as elegant, reliable and accurate high end timepieces.

Terms of Sale

We have all of our watches professionally inspected and tested before sale and have them serviced or carry out  other work that is required if they are not running smoothly and keeping reasonable time.  We warrant that the watch you purchase will, when you receive it, be as described in the listing.  We pack our watches very well to avoid damage but very occasionally a problem may occur due to rough treatment in transit.  We will provide you with a no quibble full refund, including postage or we will undertake any repairs that are necessary, if the watch is damaged or if in any other way differs significantly from the description.  If we have not stated that the watch has been serviced you may wish to have this work done particularly if you intend to wear the watch on a daily basis.  On request, we can provide you with details of independent watchmakers to whom you can send your watch for servicing.

We provide comprehensive details of our watches, including very clear photographs taken with a high resolution macro lens which shows detail not visible to the naked eye.  We also invite you to ask questions if there is anything else you need to know.  If you are buying at auction we cannot provide a refund if you decide your watch is too small or you do not like it for some other reason.    Please take care to consider the dimensions of the watch case as if it is a gentlemens’ Art Deco rectangular vintage watch; they were made smaller than contemporary watches.  Do also please bear in mind that your watch has been used so will not be as new and a fault can develop unexpectedly as with any vintage item.
