LONGINES 14K Solid Gold Art Deco Vintage Watch

Presented for sale is a Longines Art Deco 14 carat solid gold watch manufactured in 1946 and in excellent overall condition.  The case looks great, the dial has just been restored and the freshly serviced movement is is running perfectly and keeping time.  Also fitted with a new crystal and a new leather strap everthing has been done to this loveley vintage watch to ensure it is ready to wear.  As with all of my watches, authenticity is backed by a full money refund guarantee.    Although originally manufactured as a gents dress watch it is probably more suitable for a lady today as fashions and tastes have changed over the last sixty years or so when gentlemens' watches were much smaller in size.  

The condition of the dial is mint having just been restored to look as new. It has an antique white finish with the hours marked by raised gold coloured Arabic numerals.   A subsidiary seconds dial is located just above the 6 o'clock position.  The gold coloured hands are in great shape and the newly replaced crystal  is clean and clear.

In very good condition, the unsigned 14 carat solid gold rectangular case measures approximately 22mm across, excluding the crown and 32mm from lug to lug.  The inside of the rear cover is hallmarked as 14K solid gold.  There are the expected signs of careful use over the years but no dents or significant scratches.  All that I could see that for the sake of accuracy which I wish to draw to your attention is some light waviness on the rear cover.

The Longines 8LN caliber movement has 17 jewels set in solid gold casings.  The movement just been serviced so it is running strongly and keeping time.  Please note that this work can cost up to £100 and as many vintage watches require servicing before they can be put into regular use, please factor in that this work has already been done when placing your bid. The movement number is 7121492 dating the watch to 1946.

The watch is fitted with a new generic black leather strap.

Longines Watch Co. History

Longines is one of the few famous 19th century watchmakers still producing watches today. The founders of this company started up in 1833 and the Longines trademark was first used in 1866.  Longines was the first to have been classified at one or other of the four government observatories and the company won many awards for the accuracy of their watches. At the time the watch I have for sale was manufactured Longines watches had been used to time the majority of world's records in major sporting events.  Practically all of the great pioneer flights were navigated with Longines watches, including the famous Lindbergh flight in 1927. The Lindbergh aviation watch produced in 1933 was based on Lindbergh's own design.

We have all of our watches professionally inspected and tested before sale and have them serviced or carry out  other work that is required if they are not running smoothly and keeping reasonable time.  We warrant that the watch you purchase will, when you receive it, be as described in the listing.  We pack our watches very well to avoid damage but very occasionally a problem may occur due to rough treatment in transit.  We will provide you with a no quibble full refund, including postage or we will undertake any repairs that are necessary, if the watch is damaged or if in any other way differs significantly from the description.  If we have not stated that the watch has been serviced you may wish to have this work done particularly if you intend to wear the watch on a daily basis.  On request, we can provide you with details of independent watchmakers to whom you can send your watch for servicing.  

We provide comprehensive details of our watches, including very clear photographs taken with a high resolution macro lens which shows detail not visible to the naked eye.  We also invite you to ask questions if there is anything else you need to know.  If you are buying at auction we cannot provide a refund if you decide your watch is too small or you do not like it for some other reason.    Please take care to consider the dimensions of the watch case as if it is a gentlemens’ Art Deco rectangular vintage watch; they were made smaller than contemporary watches.  Do also please bear in mind that your watch has been used so will not be as new and a fault can develop unexpectedly as with any vintage item.
