Longines History
Longines is one of the few 19th century companies still producing watches today. The founders started up in 1833 and the Longines trademark was first used in 1866. Longines was the first watchmaker to have been classified at one or other of the four government observatories and the company won many awards for the accuracy of their watches. By 1950, Longines watches had won ten Grand Prizes and twenty eight Gold Medal Awards at World's Fair and International Expositions, each won in competition with the word's leading watchmakers. Longines timepieces were used to time the majority of world's records in major sporting events. Practically all of the great pioneer flights were navigated with Longines watches, including the famous Lindbergh flight in 1927. The Lindbergh aviation watch produced in 1933 was based on Lindbergh's own design. Today Longines watches are still highly sought after as elegant, reliable and accurate high end timepieces.
