| Description: I always like finding beautiful jewelry by premier Iguala and Taxco silversmiths, Los Ballesteros. Their work is always exquisite, finely crafted, and stunningly beautiful. This necklace is no exception. A very large sterling pendant hangs from a fine sterling silver chain. The pendant is hollow on the inside so that the purposefully oxidized inside really makes the design on the front "pop". The motif on the front is of Aztec deities dancing in a circle and punched out "feet" around the inner circle. Prong set in the center is a gorgeous, faceted smokey topaz gemstone. This is just a wonderful piece of jewelry and early, circa 1955. A sterling triple link chain is threaded through a large bale. The chain closes with a well working hook type clasp. This wonderful piece would truly be a great addition to your vintage Taxco collection.
Los Ballesteros is among the few glorious names in the revival of Mexican silversmithing in the early part of the 20th century. The taller began its life in 1937 in Iguala, Mexico, but moved to Taxco in 1941. The artisans at the taller have had a long history of producing creative designs that have won them a stellar reputation among lovers of Mexican silver jewelry.
