1970's Ludwig 6 ply, blue and gold badge.
big sizes, 24/18/14/13. black oyster pearl is a rewrap. all shells are solid and round with no ply separation, edges are all very good. serial numbers are all within single digits from each other. i have made many photos of each individual drum and posted at www.picturetrail.com/drumdude. i also have a matching 6.5 x 14 snare drum (NOT INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION) although it is from a different era and different series.... has re-rings and 16 lugs. it's for sale ib another auction now. it is shown in one of the photos.
24" x 14": edges are great, inside is great. no extra holes anywhere, tom mount is original and good condition. spur mounts both have cracks, one is small and one is larger than the other. and while they are fully functional and can be used with no apparent difficulty, they should be considered in need of changing out. i was very cautious when inspecting and trying them out. the former owner tells me he had been using them for years with no problem, but i wouldn't place a lot of confidence in their future. check the pictures. i found 2 t rods on the bass drum that are not straight, but the bend is at the base of the t handle, not the shaft itself. so they are still completely usable. one of them just barely touched the claw when it started to reach proper tension, i guess it would start to hit the claw more if you really wanted to crank it down extra tight. the other one is more acutely bent, again near the t handle, but still functions perfectly without hitting anything. it appears that the reso edge of the bass drum had 5 or 6 small cavities filled, but it was obviously done by someone with skills, very nice job of it. they are small, you will see in the pictures.
18" x 16": edges are great, inside great. legs are all good, screws good, everything is solid. black dot on top, ambassador clear bottom... both in good shape. badge is nice but one of the corners sticks out a bit, not major, but it's not flat. wrap looks good for the most part, but this is the one shell that has 2 seams where the main piece of wrap didn't go around completely. pictures show it. the seams are not completely flat, they are lifting slightly. it's only a small upturned bit, and it seems otherwise stable behind it. but it's there. the bottom rim isn't perfectly round, looks like it took a punch or something. it's not severe enough to effect seating, but it's noticeable. and the t rods on the bottom are longer than the top ones, i would guess the tops ones are original and the bottom aren't. rims have minimal amount of rust spots, very nice chrome.
14" x 10": edges are great, inside great. everything is solid. ambassdor coated on top, ambassador clear bottom... both in good shape. badge is nice but one of the corners sticks out a bit, not major, but it's not flat. wrap looks good, seam is good. biggest issue with this drum would be the bottom rim, it's got chrome flake. top rim is very nice, lugs are good but could use cleaning.
13" x 9": edges are great, inside great. everything is solid. pinstripe on top, very usable but plenty of use on it, ambassador clear bottom, like new. badge is nice. wrap looks good, seam is good. biggest issue with this drum would be non-original t rods on the bottom side. lugs are good but could use cleaning.
INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS: no international shipping on this set, sorry!
Buyers with "ZERO" feedback rating must contact me before bidding. I understand some buyers are new to Ebay and need to build up feedback, so i am still more than willing to do transactions with ZERO feedbacks, but i would need to be contacted FIRST. and you would need to provide a confirmed address and phone. Again, sorry I had to do this, but too many headaches with non payers. Please ask any and all questions ahead of time, as all my vintage parts are sold "as is".
and ................................ PLEASE!!!!!!
don't make me beg for payment. you won't have to beg me to ship your item quickly, so it would be SWEEEEET if winners would just go ahead and pay as soon as auction ends. and if you can't do it immediately, at least let me know when to expect payment.
Will combine shipping for multiple auctions winners.
Thanks for looking
On May-07-08 at 22:47:29 PDT, seller added the following information:i just finished packing this set and while doing so i noticed something that i failed to put in my auction description. when i took the heads off the bass drum i noticed that there are 2 different types of claws. they are similar but one type is wider than the other. the sets are complete, in other words there are 10 of one type and 10 of the other. the t's look to be the same, although one set is about 1/4" longer than the other. see last picture added.
also, i neglected to mention that the resonant head of the bass drum has a tiny puncture in it, i've placed a penny next to it in the photo to show it's size.
