This gorgeous cabochon is a 'doublet' ... one gemstone bonded on top of another gemstone. This sometimes is done with opal, in order to make useable stones from the very thin layers of opal that occur in the seams of the matrix rock. The technique also is used to conserve very expensive material, such as bonding a thin layer of ruby onto a garnet or genuine alexandrite onto synthetic material. In this case, the reason is just for design: the cabochon is constructed from Rutilated Quartz bonded onto a very thin layer of Afghan Lapis, and the result is stunningl! The quartz is extremely clean except, of course, for the Rutile needles, which are a beautiful rich golden color. The 1.0mm layer of Lapis is that wonderful, bright cobalt blue found only in Afghanistan. As you peer straight down into the stones, very tiny gold speckles of Pyrite can be seen on the surface of the underlying Lapis. Wonderful jewelry stone, and a very unusual addition to any gemstone collection. (GCB-0302-0064)

If you have a problem, please contact us immediately to see if we can resolve it. If not, you may request a return authorization code, which must be displayed prominently on the label of the return package. Return the item within 7 days. Insurance is required on all returns.
