Fossil is highly polished against the background stone, still rough from where it was excavated.

Reverse in natural, unpolished state.

About Ammonite

Ammonites are an extinct group of marine animals. Their closest living relative is not the modern Nautilus, which they resemble, but rather the octopus, squid, and cuttlefish. Their fossil shells take the form of flat spirals and are responsible for the animals' name, resembling a tightly coiled ram's horn - the Egyptian god Ammon was commonly depicted as a man with ram's horns.
