Large Sturdy Vintage Round Oak Herb Basket

Up for auction is a beautifully woven and quite large sized splint oak herb basket with a bentwood handle. It would have been made in the second half of the past century, and has the classic shape for gathering herbs, although, as noted, it is larger and deeper than most. The basket features a thin coiled base, and wide hoop-type sides, all of solid oak. Interesting construction! The basket is old enough to have developed a nice patina which will continue to deepen over time. This basket is an excellent example of "beauty in utility," and it will make a terrific addition to someone's collection.

The basket, as noted, is a nice large and showy size, measuring 11" across from handle to handle and 4" deep (13" to the top of the handle.) This basket is just in awesome shape for its age. It has no breaks or other damage, although the inside is rather dusty (I really don't consider this a flaw.) This basket is so sturdy and well constructed that it looks just great. See photos, as they give a true picture of the basket's condition. And the detailing is quite attractive and unusual.
