The author illustrates and explains the importance and meaning of yoga for pregnant women. He shows how pregnant women how they can use yoga to move toward healthy and joyous childbearing, with the best of consequences for themselves and their babies.

In India, Leboyer photographed the daughter of the great yoga master B. K. S. Iyengar. Her name is Vanita, and she is the model who poses the yoga throughout the book. In the book she practices the many Asanas or postures that Leboyer carefully and poetically explains. He teaches the correct breathing techniques for yoga and makes it clear why it is important to feel, to understand each Asana, as well as to grasp the techniques of performing it. He goes beyond the simple physical execution of a posture and explores what it means both to the inner woman and the child within.
