Legacy: The Story of the Permian Basin Region of West Texas and Southeast New Mexico. Written by Gus Clemens. Published by Mulberry Avenue Books for the Nita Stewart Haley Memorial Library: San Antonio, TX, 1983. Signed by the author opposite the half-title page. Stated first printing. Near fine condition large hardcover with a good dust jacket. Decorative map pastedowns and endpages with the previous owner's signature. Dj has many chips and a few tears. The book is in two parts. Firstly, a broad history of the region from Ice Age hunters through to Spanish explorers, Apache and Comanche Indians, American gold rushers, soldiers, railroad builders, cowboys, and pioneering townspeople. Secondly, a comprehensive Permian Basin Almanac which covers the region through maps, photographs, statistics, and histories of each of the 62 counties. The hard-to-find book measures 12 1/2" x 9 1/2" and has 256 pages. An excellent resource for the local historian or genealogist. Check out my other items! |
