Offered here is a 3" tall 3-1/2" diameter Burmese Art Glass 6 point Ruffled Crimp Lady's Cuspidor Cabinet Vase made by the Intaglio Art Glass Studio and Gary Levi in the mid 1990's. It is signed with the Levi stylized punty logo signature. It was mouth blown and finished in the off hand method using Fenton Burmese cullet. This is a gorgeous piece of American Hand Made Art Glass reminescent of and produced in the style of 19th Century Europeon and American Art Glass.
This lovely vase started its life as a gob of Fenton burmese on the end of our glass blowers pipe which was warmed in, swung to create some of its height, warmed in again, the top was squeezed to create the neck, torched, pulled and rolled to create the classic 6 point crimp. It was then broken off the pipe, the pipe end was extensively torched to smooth the base, the Levi logo was applied and the vase was annealled.
This is a very Victorian Classically Shaped Cabinet Vase.
This process has created a vase with a luscious light burmese yellow body topped with a magnificent pulled and rolled crimp in contrasting pink.
Because of the unique way in which all our art glass was produced each piece is a one of a kind work of glass as art, rare, rare, rare!
The Levay Intaglio Art Glass Studio under the direction and guidance of Gary W. Levi melted it's first pot of glass at 209 E. Vandalia St. in Edwardsville, IL on October 11, 1984. The studio was moved to Alton, IL in 1993 where it continued to produced high quality art glass until it was closed at the end of 1998. The studio will not reopen.
The opportunity to use Fenton cullet became available to us in the late 1980's and we ultilized not only Burmese, but also Cobalt, Favrene, Rosalene, Green opal, Ruby, Emerald Green, Aquamarine, Sea Mist Green, Black Amethyst, Misty Blue, Opal, Crystal, Vaseline, Cranberry, Gold Purple and Dusty Rose. This piece is from the personal collection of Dodie & Gary Levi owners of The Levi Intaglio Art Glass Studio.
