Ieyasu Tokugawa was born in the year of 1543 and was first named as Matsudaira Takechiyo. He is the son of Matsudaira Hirotada (1526-1549) a relatively minor Mikawa Lord. During the fight between Oda family and his father, Tokugawa was confined to Kowatari Castle in a place called Owari and with the help of Imagawa Yoshimoto he returned to Mikawa and set up his own power step by step. In 1566 after he defeated the Mikawa monto in March 1564 he petitioned the court to allow him to change his name and from this point he became known as Ieyasu Tokugawa.
