Okay, we have one of the popular Abraham Lincoln Coins & Chronicles sets, just released by the U.S. mint and sold out within 30 hours. If you're not familiar with the set it comes in a case and includes the following: The bicentennial Lincoln silver dollar. A nice looking coin (90% silver, 0.77 ounces) showing Abe on the obverse and the end of the Gettysburg Address on the reverse. A total of 500,000 were minted, of which about 125,000 were uncirculated. That left 375,000 proofs, of which 50,000 were held back for these sets. This is a one year commemorative. The four 2009-S Lincoln proof cents. These also are single year of issue coins. They show his birthplace in Kentucky (I've been in that log cabin--at least they think it's maybe the right one), growing up in Indiana, practicing law in Illinois, and the unfinished Capitol Building at the start of the Civil War. These coins were minted using the original 1909 copper composition, which hasn't been used since the pennies were changed in 1982 (circulating 2009 cents use today's usual zinc with copper plating). A copy of the Gettysburg Address in Lincoln's own hand. A reproduction of a photo taken of Abraham, below which (as you can see in the picture) is a copy of his signature and a certificate of authenticity from the Mint. All in all a nice package to remember one of the greatest Americans. Let's make this a real auction and start it off at the nominal face value of $1.04. Thanks for looking! |
