| Lloyd’s Rules of Acquire
Acquire can be very boring if a person has to play an entire game without any money or involvement in the game. Lloyd’s rules were developed to help keep every player involved in the game and keep the outcome undecided until the end. Lloyd’s Rules were first used in 1980 and have been revamped to coincide with the 1999 version of Acquire. (Which uses corporations instead of hotels.) They can be utilized in all versions of Acquire. Lloyd’s Rules can be used as a variant to the original rules depending on the choice of the players. Acquire is by far one of the best games ever created and with Lloyd’s Rules the game has become better. These rules are printed into a convenient booklet that fits neatly into the original versions of this timeless classic. Please feel free to send me an e-mail if you have questions. I will be glad to provide you with an answer. Please visit my e-bay store to view my listings of Acquire Games and Acquire game parts.
Lloyd,
Thank you so much! When I saw your e-storefront I knew there had to be an interesting story. I heard the German game had an adaptation that made the game more enjoyable and limited the occasional one-sided games that arose from some situations where luck allowed someone too strong an edge early in the game to keep the game fun for all.
Michael
Michael;
It is interesting as a non-player you have heard about the one sided games. That is exactly what my rules are designed to help eleviate. The first time I ever played I was on the underside of a one sided game and therefore I thought the game (wasn't any fun.) The "variant cards" used in the German version and in the 1995 version were attempts at accomplishing a level playing field, but in my opinion, they were a feable attempt at achieving this goal. They do add another degree of strategy and intrigue to the game, but they do not level the playing field as well as "LLoyd's Rules." My rules eliminate the usefullnes of one of the variant cards but the other four can still be used. The only time I used the variant cards I was on the underside of a one sided game even with the variant cards. I must say that the variant cards add a whole different strategy to the game in the sense of when is the best time to use them, but with Lloyd's Rules we seem to enjoy the game anyway.
Thank you;
Lloyd Lloyd,
I read your response to Michael in the discription of this product and it appeared that your rules utilize the varient power cards??? is this true? or can your rules be used without them. I have looked into the cards and am not really interested in using them. Thanks Lloyd's Rules can be used with or without the Avalon Hill/Schmidt Spiel variant cards. Lloyd's rules are stand-alone variants that were developed many years before Avalon Hill and Schmidt Spiel developed their variants. If Lloyd's Rules are used with the variant cards, they render one of the five variant cards useless. Lloyd's Rules are now being printed on yellow card stock instead of the ivory paper pictured in the listing. The print size has also been expanded so that Lloyd's Rules is now on six pages instead of three and are much easier to read.
