We believe that this is the First Edition Published by Charles Tilt, Fleet Street  and Wrightson & Webb Birmingham. no date , 192pp + 2 pp of table + 2pp index. There is no binding it is simply the book block itself complete with the free endpapers.

The Map is dated 1839 and is in superb condition and would look stunning mounted and framed. There is also a full page Street map of Birmingham Town Centre with the Railway Station in the bottom right hand corner and extending up to St Paul’s Chapel and  the Birmingham & Fazeles Canal and Charlotte Street at the top.

There are 6 folds across the narrow dimension and the map is orientated with the West being to the top and on a scale of 4 miles to the inch and along the base of the map is a profile of the line showing the levels and distances from London to Birmingham. The borders are good but only 4mm at the left hand side. The colouring is simply superb rendering this map gasping to be mounted and framed as the centre piece of a railway display with all the other engravings available too if required whilst keeping the whole book together you are not spoiling our historic heritage and are also able to enjoy these magnificent testaments to Victorian Engineering as well as Map & Print production not forgetting Hand Colouring skills.

 Many of the Steel engravings are very attractive views with obviously early steam engines depicted in them but there are quite a number of topographical ones as well. Many have age browning spots but these wil clean up quite easily.

 My Bookbinder has quoted me 75p each  for cleaning them and approximately £68+vat for putting a leather spined binding onto the book block as it is if you wanted to rebind the book as it is. I will put you in direct contact with him if you wish.

The book itself and thus the full page plates and town plan are 135 x 215 mm and the pull out map is 215 x 660mm
