This brand new book is a comprehensive guide to European (and other) silver hallmarks and a must have reference for anyone interested in silver items. The hallmark guides are divided by country and are very easy to read and understand. They are beautifully laid out and the format is very user friendly.

Hallmarks included are from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK (all major assay offices). The marks cover mainly the 17th through 20th century. Also included are a few of the major US maker's marks.

In addition, the author covers subjects such as the weighing and testing of silver, how to identify Old Sheffield Plate, silverplate, manufacturing methods and how to identify and date a variety of silver objects by style and construction. It also has tables with all the US patent numbers and dates as well as the English design registration numbers. This is the best general reference I've ever seen on silver.
