All laser diode manufactures recommand the laser diodes best operation condition to there data sheet as Vop and Iop.
Good laser efficient diodes(low voltage, low current, high power) are very expensive than low efficient diodes.
If good laser efficiency it will not so much heat and don't need comarable big heat sink, and compareably increase life time of laser diodes.
