Nice lot of early/vintageMagic tricks, magician books,
association magazines, association booklets and flyers.
All
from the 1920's, 1940's and 1950's
These items are in very good condition as the
collection was packed away decades ago and forgotten about. There's a nice
variety included here - the items and details are as follows:
The Linking Ring, the International
Brotherhood of Magicians Vol 39, no. 7 (September 1959) - cover shows Karl
Germaine (the signature is part of the publication). Nice bright pages, no tears
or handwriting noted. 114 pages.
Ireland Writes a Book - softcover,
previous owner's note penciled on cover. Written by L. L. Ireland and
published in 1945 from the Ireland Magic Company. Second printing.
Show Stoppers with Cards - softcover,
previous owner's name and doodles penciled on cover. Written by Jean Hugard and
Fred Braue. 16 pages. A few pages had light pencil notes and corner
creases. Looks like the owner had trouble mastering one of the tricks.
Interior marks can easily be erased. No date listed but this publication
came out in 1948.
A Catalog of Selected Magic - 23
pages of early catalog from the Finis Magic Company out of Waterloo Iowa.
Sticker and number penned on bottom of cover are notes from the company.
No date listed in catalog though appears to be from the 40's. There's
quite the array of magic tricks with most costing around a dollar, though the
back cover shows an ad for the "Doll House Illusion" which sells for $175.00.
No handwriting or marks noted but there is a small tear at bottom of spine of
about an inch.
Book of Instruction for use with Puzzle
Parties - published in 1920 by the A. C. Gilbert Co. 14 pages.
Booklet was originally folded in half, so there is a crease through the center.
Covers early Gilbert puzzles which includes linking rings, nail puzzle,
shamrock, wishbone, and many other classic parlor tricks.
The Miraculous Penetration Frame -
made in 1951 by the Royal Magic and Novelty Co. Includes frame and leather
slipcase along with 5 playing cards. 2 of the cards have holes through the
center. The frame may have been glued at one time though this may also be
how it was built. There is no instruction sheet though this was removed
from another webpage which shows the instruction sheet: Solid Plastic Glass
in a Plastic Frame is given for examination. Nothing unusual can be detected.
Two playing or business cards are placed on each side of the frame, underneath
the thin strip, so that the circle in the middle is perfectly covered. The
performer now pierces both cards through the glass with any borrowed pencil.
This can be followed by a silk, ribbon of knife.
The cards are then removed by the performer and to everyone's amazement, the
glass is in perfect condition and the frame again can be given for examination.
There's a bit of fuzz along the edges of the frame. It was stored in
the leather case and took a bit of pulling to get it out.
Adams' Chinese Linking Rings - Original box and
set of 8 rings. There is no instruction sheet.
No dates, but box is assumed to be from the 1950's as this item was
included in a box of early magic books & magazines that were all from the same
date range. Blue box has small edge split and minor
crease, otherwise it's very clean and bright. Rings are clean with only
very minor discoloration.
Fun With Puzzles - softcover by
Joseph Leeming. Comet books published 1949. 213 pages. More of a
young adult book paperback. Minor tear on cover along with top edge.
Popular Card Tricks - large
softcover by Walter B. Gibson and edited by Joseph H. Krauhs. 48 pages,
published by the E. I. Company of New York in 1928. Pages are toned and
there are numerous pencil markings throughout (mainly small check marks) which
can be erased if desired. Previous owner's name penned on
cover and first ad page. Nice illustrations and art deco ads.
M-U-M (Magic - Unity - Might) - Vo.
48 no. 6 Los Angeles Assembly No. 22 Issue, November 1968. Published by
the Society of American Magicians. Cover pictures Gerald Kosky.
