If you like romance this might just be the movie for you. Lovesick does a fabulous job of conveying the confused, ridiculous, and giddy feelings of that ever elusive feeling we call love! Dudley Moore fans may be slightly put off at his low key and rather earthy performance but hopefully they will see it for what it truly is- a fantastic performance by a talented actor. He plays a married psychiatrist who falls head-over-heels in love with his beautiful, young, vulnerable patient (played by Elizabeth McGovern). It is not an action packed or comedy filled movie but rather a wonderful study of human nature and how it is effected by the insanity we feel when falling in love. Watch the actors facial expressions, study their movements and behavior and then you can sit back later and reflect on how ridiculous love can be. The cast members are worth watching if nothing else (translation if you are a love cynic)and include Ron Silver, John Huston, David Straithairn, Sir Alec Guinness, Christine Baranski, Larry Rivers, Gene Saks, Richard B Shull, Alan King, Wallace Shawn and Renee Taylor. Written and directed by Marshall Brickman. Of obvious note, the soundtrack is without a doubt (in my mind) an absolute treasure for the musical minded. Philippe Sarde is the brilliant composer but sadly this soundtrack has never been put out as a soundtrack. For those in love and those who want to be in love this is a must see movie!Read full review
As romantic comedies go, half of the fun is how unlikely the two parties are for this love connection. Elizabeth McGovern held up beautifully to Moore's potrayal of the troubled psychiatrist. I loved the inclusion of John Huston and Alec Guiness in authority figure roles
