Element Series Drums are the answer to that call, boasting a staggering array of features found previously only on customized boutique kits. Accessibly priced and fortified to take a pounding, Element is the key to the next level.

Element SE -or Special Edition- is a destination for specialized collaboration kits, showcasing an evolving array of customized features for the gigging player.

This exciting new hybrid shell combination of Cherry and Gumwood produces a sound that is reminiscent of “Vintage Ludwig”, while possessing a fresh modern sound at the same time. The end result incorporates the best sonic qualities from both worlds, offering a bright, focused attack along with resonance and sustain. Cherry is a very dense wood which brings out a bright, high end attack. Core plies of Gumwood enhance the mid to low end tones resulting in a warm and balanced sound. The shells are 7mm with a slightly rounded bearing edge with inner, outer, and center plies of Cherry and core plies of Gumwood. This Element SE Series is available in three configurations and three Retro wrap finishes; Mod Orange, Citrus Mod and Psychedelic Red.

The Design:

"About a year ago I was visiting one of our facilities reviewing wood types for possible projects, and came upon Cherry wood as a possibility.  As it has been our intention to combine woods in our current product line for more unique tonal quality, I wanted to combine it with a good partner wood to get a more "Modern Vintage" sound.  Cherry is a darker, very dense wood, so its initial tone is brighter.  To mellow the sound a bit and take the 'bite' off the top-end, we added core plies of Gumwood.  The combination that made the best sonic cocktail ended up being a thicker shell (7mm,) with a slightly rounded edge, with Cherry inner, outer, and center-plies, with Gumwood filling in the core.
 
The result is one that I feel will certainly be right at home with the vintage drum aficionado.  The initial sound is bright and focused, but it has a beautiful resonance and mid-range sustain to it that sounds like 50's jazz or bebop to my ear.  Think Art Blakey meets Mitch Mitchell.  This is NOT a cheap set of drums, the craftsmanship is excellent, and priced for the gigging player.
 
As many have no-doubt seen from the recent fervor over the Bun E. Carlos Signature snare, we have other plans for the classic Mod/Psych wraps in terms of the Classic Maple and Legacy Classic lines.  So we wanted to use the standard wraps on this new Element SE line.  Mod Orange, Citrus Mod, and Psychedelic Red are all represented with the Classic Micro-Lug.  Element SE Cherry/Gum is also the first production kit to feature the new Keystone floor tom/tom tom bracket and thumbscrew, and 4-piece configurations come standard with the new Rail Consolette tom mount."
