A set of 12 new, genuine MB repair size thrust pieces 3.5mm thick for the valves on the M180 and M130 engines in the Unimog 404 and 220 and 280 sedans.

Thinner thrust pieces are used to compensate for wear when the adjuster bottoms out when adjusting the valves.  These thrust pieces fit to the top of the valve spring retainer. 

The valve adjuster consists of a ball pin head which has an interference thread with the base.  If the torque required to turn the adjuster is less than 1.5 mkg, the ball pin adjuster, base unit or both need to be replaced.

The valve clearance is measured between the camshaft base circle and the upper face of the rocker arm.

To increase the valve clearance the ball pin head is screwed downwards (clockwise).  To decrease the valve clearance the ball pin adjuster is screwed upwards (anti-clockwise).

The workshop manual states that valve clearances with the engine cold should be 0.10mm (inlet) and 0.20mm (exhaust).

With the engine warm (~60 deg. C), the clearances should be 0.15mm (inlet) and 0.25mm (exhaust).
