This is a technically perfect; Patented high performance birdfeeder
developed for small finches or finch like birds with the primary
intent of providing a tool to dispense seeds that birds actually
prefer to use. Being a 100% bird feeder it is not intended to be a
Garden or Lawn ornament. This feeder has been designed around the
seed and for the preferences of birds that use them.
The result is a feeder that will attract, display, and dispense seed
in an efficient manner while keeping the seed fresh by providing a well
ventilated method of containing seed, and providing sufficient feeding
ports for access, with sufficient area for their use. Each part of
the feeder is dependent on one another other, and when put together as a
complete interlocking unit a very effective seemingly, simple tool allows
feeding, and displaying birds far more effectively, all with less
effort, less cost and for longer periods of time, all with a single
filling.
Once
the feeder is filled with seed, a marvelous transformation takes place as
it turns into a RIGID refillable feeder, mimicking characteristics of
standard tubular feeders but contains over 4 pounds of thistle seed, and
utilizes 24 feeding ports, four or more may be shared, allowing more
than 24 birds to feed at one time. Inclement weather maintains
your feeder and the seed, which reduces feeder maintenance to basically
topping off with seed. It is absolutely the easiest, most efficient,
economical feeder to use, and the most productive. This is
accomplished by disregarding all standard methods of containing and
dispensing seeds now in use. The only feature it has in common is that it
looks like a feeder when put into use. All else is different, which
means it would take pages to explain the how and whys. The highlight
section explains what you will notice with use. Feeder to the right
shows the beginning of the "TREE"
pattern being formed.
All models of these feeders, function in the
same fashion as a feeder, but as a display feeder, they will
function differently. A quick explanation of the difference between
a 14 port feeder and a feeder with more ports is two fold. Port
placement creates a design on the feeder so that birds feeding will
at times develop the pattern by feeding with their placement on the
feeder. Now logically you should be able to feed more birds with
more ports. Yes and no. A 14 port feeder is capable of feeding 28
birds. Why - they can share a freestanding port, and will depending
on the season of the year. A feeder with 20 or 24 ports will have
less sharing ability but will provide more individual feeding ports,
which means you will generally have more birds using a feeder with
more ports throughout the seasons. This is the physiological mental
tolerance syndrome birds have that necessitates the need for space.
Or to explain it another way "I want it, get your own".
Quick run down
It will not rust, crack, or rot. There is no
condensation built up inside the feeder to degrade the seed, and when it
rains the superior ventilation dries the contents quickly. There are no
nooks or crannies that are not well ventilated or exposed to sunlight.
They open instantly for filling and close just as fast. The area for
adding seed is of sufficient size and provides an elliptical opening,
allowing for easy filling.
Seed consumption will generally average 150 lbs or less of seed usage over
the period of a year for this feeder. It would break every rule in the
book, if there was such a book, there is nothing like and there is nothing
that works like it. They display a single bird as well as many. From
quantity of birds, safety, ease of use, efficiency, accessibility,
acceptance, display, maintenance, economical use, versatility, material
and construction all been taken into consideration to produce a
performance bird feeder. It is so different it was rapidly awarded a US
Utility Patent.
These feeders are meant for small flocking birds attracted to thistle
seed, which from a nutritional standpoint is superior to all other
offerings and actually the least expensive (see below) seed you can
provide for birds.
Please remember these feeders have an actual front and
back plus two sides. The information provided on this listing is the
result of 2 1/2 years of extensive testing "before" offering these feeders
for sale. These feeders build their own audience of birds, so the number of
birds you attract will increase, while your effort will decrease.
Squirrels (flying included) DO NOT LIKE AND WILL NOT EAT THISTLE.
If the only seed you were to offer was thistle, the squirrels, raccoons,
etc. frequenting your feeding area would leave. It is not a native see,
flavor is objectionable, and the small size of the heart makes it
physically impossible to be used as a food source. No germination of seed
beneath the feeder (sterilized to kill weed seeds).
Developed for flocking birds, with group or singles as an added benefit:
Goldfinch (all), Pine Siskin, House Finch, Lesser Goldfinch and others.
The feeder provides a solid, neutral background to enhance the display of
birds. This means the from farther distances the birds will stand out and
display better.
No assembly on your part. No parts to lose. Fills fast and is easy to
hang. Becomes rigid when filled, making the feeder easy to grip and hang.
Base feeder construction is a thermoplastic, waterproof, super strong
mesh, which provides a wall thickness of about 40 microns. Thickness of 4
index cards. Hanger is a support handle when refilling and the cord is not
floppy and useless when re-hanging.
Maintains seed fresh - fully tested for 9 months, with all types of
weather conditions. Totally weather resistant. Feeding ports remain open
to birds in the worst snowstorm, and the feeder itself remains free of
snow. Approximate seed capacity - 4 lbs 6 oz (Over 1 gallon dry measure).
Longer intervals between filling. This is not just based on a large seed
capacity, but also increased efficiency.
You are buying from the Inventor, the Patent holder and the Manufacturer.
They are hand made using all US material and slave labor - that would be
Me.
Number of
feeding ports - 24 /
BLACK SPRUCE
Approximate dimensions (empty) are 6" X 24". Slightly longer than
a standard tubular feeders. The width dimension when filled (center) is
about 4 1/2", and forms a mild hourglass shape. Hanging height of the
feeder, may be increased by up to 6", with a simple adjustment for easier
positioning.
Feeding ports will not enlarge with use by birds, in a few months or
years. The feeder itself will retain its color, and will not permanently
stain, and will out last the hanger system. (easily replaceable part)
Still capable of feeding 16 birds when half full, which is when you
should top it off. Economical use. Increased efficiency increases economy.
All models operate on pennies a day. Average use of a 24-port feeder (150
lb) over a period of a year .24 to .25 cents a day, at a seed cost of .60
cents a lb.
The large surface area that the feeder itself provides is 2 sq. feet, and
in addition the edges of the feeder itself form two 24 inch TRUE perches,
they are just not the customary round perches. The perching area provided
by feeder itself, is like
suspending two square feet of ground area, in the air and turning it into
a feeder.
The feeder reduces aggression and competitive feeding by providing
numerous feeding ports, and the area for their use. Feeding birds becomes
more entertaining with the different patterns they can create as they use
the feeder.
Feeding ports
are replicated on the opposite side for a total of 24. Placement is shown
in the diagram farther down.
Feeder maintenance required has been reduced to easy shaking of the feeder
when topping off with seed to loosen any seed packing that will occur with
time. Of course normally practiced feeder cleaning may be done, if
necessary by immersing the empty feeder in lukewarm water with a small
amount of Clorox added to sterilize/brighten them.
Black feeder below is the CANOE Model with the birds forming a Canoe
pattern. Similar results could be achieved with this Spruce Model except
the birds would form a TREE pattern.
The following is provided because I think it is quite enlightening
and really needs to be here.
These feeders are Thistle Feeders, and they take full advantage of the
amazing seed count and nutritional superiority that thistle has to offer
which makes thistle the most economical seed to use. It is also the
preferred seed of many small bird species. I have included a picture below
comparing the seed size to the size of a dime for those not familiar with
this seed.
Seed count in one lb of thistle is staggering; about 135,000.00 -
black oil sunflower about 7,200 = 13.5 million in 100 lbs of
thistle and 720 thousand in black oil sunflower. This could be called an
optical economical illusion - price vs. volume and weight.
A more robust example could be expressed like this:
You would need 1,875 lbs of black oil sunflower to equal the seed count
in 100 lbs of thistle.
Protein and Fat content - Thistle - 20% and 39% which is 30% and 48.7%
higher than; Black Oil Sunflower at 14% and 20% Fiber is the same for
both. 35%.
Now
the time involved in shelling and consuming seeds by birds is about the
same. But to make this more believable if birds were able (they can't)
to shell and consume 9.37 thistle seeds to one sunflower this would bring
the figures to 100 lbs = 937 lbs to display the same number of birds for
a given period of time.
One
of these feeders will average about 150 lbs of thistle per year and that
using 24 feeding ports. What this means is bird for bird and station for
station you still see and feed more birds for longer periods of time using
thistle, all with less cost while providing better nutrition, regardless
of the price difference of the two seeds.
Thistle seed is now usually imported from Ethiopia and must be sterilized
as any seed coming into the US is and this requirement is to kill noxious
weed seeds. Thistle that grows in the US is not even related to imported
thistle except for the common name which causes so
much confusion.
This feeders feeding ports form a "TREE" PATTERN
Feeding ports are replicated on the opposite
side for a total of 24. Placement is shown on empty feeder - RIGHT>
Port placement allows for exceptional full view of birds from front,
back or a double side view. In addition birds when on the
opposite side of the feeder may peak around the edges of the feeder
to produce a Peek-a-boo effect. Placement of birds when feeding is
intended to produce the SPRUCE pattern along with various other
patterns like "stars, circles, etc"
