Cord Magick or Knot Magick has been used since Antiquity. It can be found in use from ancient Mesopotamia onward. Variations are found in all religions. In the Wiccan Religion it is a very useful tool in seeking love, promotion, health, happiness, and wealth.

Knot tying was used in Roman magic as lovers sometimes were tied together to keep a couple bound to each other. Solemn oaths to the gods were often made while tying a knot.

In Greek mythology, the three Fates wove, knotted and cut the string of life for every individual. There is also the famous Gordian Knot that Alexander the Great cut in two with his sword.

Mohammed the Prophet was cursed by a knot, and had it not been found and untied, it is said that Mohammed would have died. Tying a knot in one s beard is believed to protect them from the evil eye and done by some Islamics.

It was a practice of Catholics to tie a knot when invoking saints to bind the saints to them until their prayers were answered.

Sailers would have three knots in a string, rope, or rag. If the sailor wanted more wind he would untie one knot. If he should untie 2 knots, the wind would blow half a gale. All three knots untied would cause a hurricane.

In marriage the image of tying the knot was used to signify the bond of marriage. It was thought bad luck to tie a knot at someone s wedding, for fear it would block a true union for the bride and groom.

In many cultures it was custom to undo all the knots within a house to help a woman in labor.

When someone lay dying, it was common practice to untie all the knots within the room so as to not keep the dying person bound to his body and help them die quickly with less suffering.
