When Mares set out to create a new line of women's dive gear, the company wanted equipment that was "beautiful to look at and even better to dive with," says designer Monica Sullender. The result is the She Dives! collection, feature-rich gear designed by women, for women. The centerpiece is the Kaila weight-integrated BC. It features Mares' new Dragon bladder system, which wraps most of the buoyancy around the tank, not the diver. When the BC is fully inflated there is minimal body squeeze, reports test diver Vicki Durst. The buoyancy arrangement also holds the diver in a horizontal position under water. The MRS-plus integrated-weight system with mechanical lock-and-release pockets is easy to load (thanks in part to convenient metal D-rings just below the pockets) and to ditch. Shaped pockets conform to your waist. A single outward pull is all you need to release your weights. The oversized release handle is easy to grasp and use, even when wearing thick neoprene gloves.
