AN IMPRESSIVE 19th CENTURY VISION OF THE MIDDLE-AGES!

IN VERY FINE VINTAGE CONDITION!…TIGHT & SOLID!

This antique Templar Sword is as decorative as one could hope for. It is one of the ABSOLUTELY RAREST! The central Pomegranate design is just unbelievable. A Beautiful and clean circa 1880's Collector's Sword, it is in handsome vintage condition with only minor age wear. Beautiful. There is only very minor flaw, if we can even call it that. On the lower part of the mirror-bright scabbard there is a light and superficial dent. We call it superficial because it is not deep and does not effect anything. The Sword's movement in and out of the scabbard is just fine. Even cosmetically, we consider this a minor thing. Otherwise every inch of this Sword radiates with brilliance. And everything is nice and tight! Besides its phenomenal Pomegranate Centerpiece, the Scabbard features a grouping of picturesque Mounts in Silver and Enamel. ELABORATE CRESTS WITH BATTLE-SHIELDS AND ANCIENT WEAPONRY! Our favourite of all the decorations is the dynamic Middle Mount. A wonderful depiction of a TRIUMPHANT KNIGHT WARRIOR! The Drag shows still more ornate decorations. The Grip is fully Hand-Engraved on both sides by a Master of the artform. These great designs are rendered in a technique based on the beloved maritime folk art known as scrimmm-shaww. As for the handle itself, it looks to be of natural origin. A dynamic KNIGHT'S HEAD POMMEL tops off the Sword. Both sides of his Helmet are decorated with a FIERCE MYTHOLOGICAL GRYPHON. The splendours of Medieval Europe mixes with the Exotic Spiritualism of Old Jerusalem. The Mirror-Bright Blade is etched and engraved in the Rococo tradition.The makers mark is there as is the name of the original owner (which is also etched on the scabbard). This Classic Sword was made in circa the 1890's by “The Pettibone Bros”, a world famous company founded by and for the most part staffed by Masons. They rank high alongside “The Ames Sword Company”, “The M. C. Lilley & Co” and “William Horstmann of Philadelphia”. The Sword was obviously well treasured all of its life. An ideal item for those who cherish the arts and aura of anything Medieval or Renaissance. One does not find better style. EVERYTHING SHIMMERS RADIANTLY. The Sword within its Scabbard measures approximately 28 inches. Alone the Sword is about 35¼ inches with the Blade being around 30 large inches. A Magical Historic Masonic Treasure. IMPORTANT: THE GRIP ON THIS SWORD IS LEGAL, GENUINELY OLD...AND MANUFACTURED BY HAND!

HERE ARE THE FACTS!!!....CONTRARY TO COMMON MISCONCEPTION, THE VAST, VAST MAJORITY OF OLD (and most all later) MASONIC SWORDS USED SYNTHETIC CELLULOID SUBSTANCES TO CREATE THEIR SWORD GRIPS. IN SELECT INSTANCES, MAKERS USED APPROVED BONE FROM ALREADY DEAD ANIMALS, ALTHOUGH MOST OF WHAT YOU SEE IS SYNTHETIC (especially the very elaborately decorated grips). THE USE OF CELLULOID SUBSTANCES IS VERY OLD AND VERY VARIED. MANY PEOPLE TODAY ERRONEOUSLY BELIEVE THEIR SWORD HANDLE TO BE MADE FROM ANIMAL PARTS, WHEN IN REALITY IT IS FASHIONED OUT OF CELLULOID...EITHER HIGH GRADE) in the case of old swords) OR A LOWER QUALITY PLASTIC. BUT IT IS A PLASTIC NONETHELESS. BUT BE ASSURED, CELLULOID CAN ALSO BE EXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL. ESPECIALLY THE OLDER PIECES. IT IS ALSO A FACT THAT DURING THE 19th CENTURY, SWORD MAKERS UTILIZED A PARTICULARLY HIGH GRADE CELLULOID FOR THEIR GRIPS (in later years they used a less costly material). THIS EXPENSIVE MATERIAL LENDS ITSELF BEAUTIFULLY TO HAND-ENGRAVED DESIGNS. THE MATERIAL ITSELF WAS TREATED IN SUCH A WAY SO AS TO LOOK AND FEEL "REAL" IN EVERY WAY IMAGINABLE. ONLY A SKILLED EXPERT UPON CLOSE EXAMINATION COULD DETECT THE GRIP WAS SYNTHETIC IN ORIGIN.
