I HAD A BIT OF FUN WITH THESE BOWLS! I TURNED THEM BOTH FROM AAA GRADE FIGURED MAPLE. LOOKS LIKE TIGER MAPLE TO ME. AFTER HOLLOWING OUT THE INSIDE THROUGH THE HOLE ON TOP WITH MY GOOSE NECK TOOL I DECIDED TO DYE THE INSIDE OF THE FIRST ONE WITH SOME BLACK PIGMENT. THE CONTRAST WAS SO COOL THAT I HAD TO TURN THE SECOND AND REVERSE THE EFFECT USING THE BLACK PIGMENT ON THE OUTSIDE. A FRIEND FROM WORK SUGGESTED I LIST THEM AS A PAIR AND CALL THEM YIN & YANG. PRETTY CUTE, SO I DID JUST THAT!

AFTER THE PIGMENT DRIED I APPLIED SEVERAL COATS OF GLOSS LAQUER TO SEAL & SHINE.

THEY ARE NOT EXACTLY THE SAME SIZE BECAUSE I NEVER USE A DUPLICATOR BUT EVEN THE DIFFERENCE ADDS TO THE UNIQUENESS OF THE SET. THE NATURAL COLOR ONE IS 5 5/8" x 1 7/8" AND THE BLACK ONE IS 5 7/8" X 2".

NEXT I THINK I'M GOING TO TRY BLACK AND RED....HUMMMM...WE WILL SEE!
