MAUDE GOODMAN PRINT 1889'
Up for sale we have a Maude Goodman painting that is believed to have been made into this print and copyrighted by Fishler, Adler and Schwartz of New York in 1889'. In the lower left hand corner of the print there is a handwritten M. Goodman within the print and then on the outside of the print in the same corner is typed "painted by M. Goodman".
The print is framed in old glass that still has the wave markings and other identifible attributes of old glass.
This is an attic find and its a good one! This is one rare black and white print that is believed to be titled "The Recital". This is a Parlor Picture of a young girl playing an instrument for a young man and a young girl that by the expressions on their face want to be elsewhere.
There is some light brown spotting beneath the glass frame and we cannot tell whether or not the spots are on the picture or on the glass or both.
The actual print measures 29 1/2 inches X 25 1/2 inches.
The painter Maude Goodman was born in Manchester but remained obscure until her marriage to Arthur Scanes in 1882. Maude retained her maiden name for her paintings and exhibited her first pictures at the Royal Academy the year she married.
The frame is beige with flowers and is in fair to good condition.
