Poemas CLAUDIO SERRA BRUN
THE MEMORY OF THE MIRROR VOLUME I 1997
Poems by CLAUDIO SERRA BRUN (Argentina - Spain) and Music by GUSTAVO ROSES RIPOLL (Spain)
Poetry and music recital Yecla, Murcia 7/24/1997 Club Diario Levante, Valencia, 10/6/1998 PRESENTATION OF RECITAL OF POEMS AND MUSIC THE MEMORY OF THE MIRROR Claudio Serra Brun, poems. Gustavo Roses Ripoll, music. Good night everyone, thanks for coming to the presentation of The Memory of the Mirror, a series of poems written by myself and enlivened with the music of Gustavo Roses; I also would like to give thanks for the help received in trying to bring about this act and for the words of Jose Luis Galiana and Paco Bodí, enthusiast promoters of artistic manifestations put together by the same spirit of Communication, that according to our Vicente Aleixandre, is the most accurate definition of poetry: Poetry is Communication. In Memory of the Mirror, I’ve tried to put together a series of poems based on topics such as violence and its antagonist, the desire and nostalgia for peace, men’s position in relation to poverty, in his double face of hunger and social postponement, a personal vision, too, about mass media, love, literature, and that maze of time – past, present, and future – that we all live in and that compromises us, driven by the threads of conscience, to also live the lives of others.
I mentioned at the beginning a luminous phrase by Aleixandre: “Poetry is Communication”… our Aleixandre, and I say “our” because the great poet born in Sevilla, belongs, like any other Hispanic American writer, such as Rubén Darío or Borges, to all of us, in all of our countries where Spanish is the mother tongue, rooted in a symbiosis of centuries with the native language, which is something that history reflects. Culture and the artistic action belong to the spiritual world and therefore are free. They are born and unrolled in freedom only. One of the many challenges a writer has is to guess correctly on the portrait of spiritual state of its time, a theme that accompanies us throughout our life, thus each new work is no more than an approximation in the terrain of this quest. In order for this work to continue, it is essential to communicate it, to follow Aleixandre’s wise advice, to confront it with others. They are the ones that will serve as new paradigms to follow, the renovated vision that life gives off. I am happy to be able to carry out this communication with you, here in Valencia, just like in Buenos Aires.
Thanks a lot. © Claudio Serra Brun. November 2000. Valencia, España. (English version: Juan E.Villegas(USA)
