Movie description
An adaptation of Shakespeare's tragedy "Macbeth," MEN OF RESPECT is set in the New York underworld, where Michael Battaglia (John Turturro) is a fearless mobster who wins the respect of his powerful Godfather. But the prodding of his ambitious wife and the prophecy of a ghetto gypsy convinces Battaglia to murder the Godfather and claim his crown.

Actors John Turturro and Katherine Borowitz are married in real life. Estimated budget $3 million. Filmed on location in the Bronx, New York. Filming began August 28, 1989; completed October 13, 1989. Screened at the 1990 Cannes Film Festival, Montreal World Film Festival and Chicago International Film Festival. Released in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Toronto January 18, 1991. Released on video June 26, 1991. Reviewed in the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times January 18, 1990. Some sources listed the running time at 113 minutes. Another gangster film based on "Macbeth" was produced in 1955, entitled "Joe Macbeth," this British release was directed by Ken Hughes and starred Paul Douglas and Ruth Roman.
