The 1940s documentaries from Latin and South America belong to my many favourites . Now another one is available - "The Day is New", depicting a day in Mexico City during the years of WW2. It's produced by the Mexican director Aqustin P. Delgado for Alfa and has a commentary by Sheldon Dick. , but the details for Delgado list many Mexican films, and mention that he was an assisting cameraman when filming "Forgotten Village" (1941 - a great feature film . Someone else may analyze how the "Good Neighbor"-policy of the Roosevelt era is expressed in this movie, or similar movies by Julien Bryan and others. This very (VERY) leisurely trip which first starts briefly in Tijuana and then very quickly makes it's way through the California coast til it reaches San Fransisco. The film goes by quickly, sometimes way way too quickly,
An interesting tour around Olvera street in Los Angeles... Not too sure if it's still there or not. If it is,there is some lovely photography of the tourists down this street, and the music, while sometimes repetitious, is nice. This is sort of like a Mexican tourist trap, except you're outside of Mexico it looks like.

A production in Trucolor about Olvera Street and the old Mexican quarter in Los Angeles, California

This is actually a silent travelogue film of a couples travels through Mexico. More specifically (I guess) Cuernavaca, Mexico. I say I guess as I don't know Mexico at all. In any event, we see Good Friday celebrations! The last walk of Jesus is dramatized, with many people in nice looking costumes leading the way. We also see some other parades (nice costumes again) and some church architecture, mountains, and finally a great look on some mexican fresco artwork. So if any of that appeals to you, then it's worth a look
