This hard to find item was made by Sony Asia.  It is called a "VCD" (Video CD) which means it is a CD that also plays video (explained in more detail below.)  This will play on your computer, and in almost all DVD players.  We have now sold almost 200 of these and only TWO people had an incompatible DVD player (and they chose to keep it to watch on their computer.)  You'll notice my pic has a commemorative sticker in the upper left corner .  Please note: Our latest shipments DO NOT have that sticker anymore.  We have no more in stock with the sticker at this time.  If we get some in, we will update this listing. 

Be careful...there have been a lot of people selling fake or home made ones.  If the price is too low, or the seller's picture looks funny, be suspicious.  If the picture shows a disc in a skinny case instead of a standard jewel case, or if it is advertised as "disc only with no paper inserts," be suspicious.  If the location of the seller looks odd AND the seller has very low feedback, be suspicious.  Read their feedback to see if other customers have complained that they purchased a bootleg or the picture quality was bad.  If they tell you it's a DVD, or will guarantee it will play on ALL DVD players, be suspicious.  (These were never released on DVD.  It is an audio CD that plays the video on your computer, but most DVD players will still read it.  NOBODY has these on DVD because they were not made on DVD.)  Ebay has been doing a great job removing the fraudulent listings, but some still pop up here and there.

A great, scary, Michael Jackson dance movie which, unlike Thriller, many people haven't seen in the US, so it's a chance to see Michael in great form.  Based on a concept by Michael Jackson and Stephen King.

I finally got to watch one of these, and really enjoyed it.  This was not the biggest hit in the US, and I'm convinced it was underrated and underappreciated at the time it came out.  The first thing that struck me was that he was a really good actor.  I'd forgotten that.  Then you are treated to original music, dance routines - when Michael is confronted by an angry mob, he single-handedly conjures up some ghoulish back-up dancers and shows them what's what. (Understatement!)  There was one part that is now pretty poignant in light of his death - I know you'll know just what I mean when you see it, but I don't want to give it away.  As a casual MJ fan, this was a real treat and something I had missed back when it came out.  Rest in peace, Michael.  You were brilliant.

You also see a bit of behind-the-scenes footage (make-up, etc.) during the fairly long closing credits sequence.

What is a VCD?

A LOT of people have been asking me about this, so I thought I'd try to explain it right here.  VCD means "Video CD."  These never really caught on in the US.  (Although many modern CD's now have a video component - it's a similar idea but not quite the same thing.  These were kind of ahead of their time.)  They were more popular in Asia.  They actually had "VCD players." The discs could also be played on computers.

"Ghosts" was first released in 1997.  A little research will tell you that DVD players were just starting to be made back then.  They were certainly not mainstream.  VHS tapes dominated the US.  VCD's also had some popularity outside the US.  So when "Ghosts" came out, they made it only on VHS videotape in the US, and they made it on VCD for the Asian markets.  They never intended for it to be played on a DVD player, because nobody really had them yet.  The quality of a VCD is more comparable to a VHS than to a modern DVD.

As it happens, almost all modern DVD players are able to read VCD's.  (Yay!)  But not 100% of them can do it, so you should know that before you buy (no matter from whom you buy it.  If they are legitimate products, they are all the same.  They are only made by one company.)  As a backup, you can play it on your computer.  If your DVD player is very old (one of the first ones to come out) or very inexpensive (like those $20 specials at Wal-Mart) then it might not be able to read a VCD. 

If it does not play on your DVD player, that does not mean it is defective.  That means it's just not compatible with your DVD player.  But it will work on your computer, and you can always get a new DVD player down the road - some of them cost less than this VCD!

What you cannot do is to find "Ghosts" on DVD.  It just won't happen - at least not a legitimate one.  You may find bootlegs on DVD, but Michael never released "Ghosts" on DVD.

I'm sorry, but if you want to return this item because it turns out that you are one of the very few who do not have the proper equipment to play it, we must reduce your refund by $10 because you will now be returning the item in "used" condition, and we will have to re-sell it as such for a much lower price, below our cost in fact, through no fault of our own.
