"MINT" Parker 65 Fountain Pen Nib Assembly, "Fine Italic" This is a MINT Parker 65 Fountain Pen Nib Assembly, Fine Italic. c. 1969-1970's. It is the nib/feed/collector assembly unit which fits into the shell/hood for Parker 65 Fountain Pens. The nib is marked, "PARKER 14K 585 ENGLAND"(see pictures). The 14k gold nib is "Fine Italic" and designed for "Fine Italic" style writing. A Fine Italic style nib is similar to a stub nib in that the iridium tip has a straight horizontal cut...yet differs from a stub nib in that the horizontal cut has a sharper edge allowing for good line width variations. A straight cut italic nib is most often used by right handed writers...but can also be used by left handed writers who rotate the paper in relation to nib angle. Note: This nib/feed/collector assembly is NOS(New Old Stock) and in mint, unused condition with no flaws. As a point of history, the "Parker 65" pen was introduced in 1969 as a slight variation of the Parker 61 model. It is similar in most all aspects to the Parker 61 except that it has an open cropped nib that is fitted into the collector and shell/hood. Early Parker 65's had collectors and connectors that were different to those of Parker 61's...and later Parker 65's had connectors that were common to both Parker 65's and Parker 61's. The cropped style parker 65 nib slotted over the feed, and was sealed with wax to prevent leakage. While it is an improvement that the Parker 65 nib offered the writer more flexibility than the Parker 61, heavy-handed writers sometimes caused the nib to gradually lift off the feed due to the pressure which impaired the ink flow(with the later developed Parker 75, the nib is set more securely and the problem was mostly eliminated). Note: There is good information on Parker 65 pens and the different styles that were produced in the book "Fountain Pens of the World by Andreas Lambrou"(see pages 202-206). Great for use as a replacement for an old or damaged Parker 65 nib...or if you are just looking to purchase a new, different style of Parker 65 nib. If you are not skilled at pen repair...it's best to have an experienced pen repair professional install the nib into your pen. There is also a great book titled "Pen Repair" by Jim Marshall and Lawrence Oldfield(ISBN 9780954630461) that is a valuable source of information on repair of Parker 65's and Parker 61's. Please note that this auction is just for the single nib assembly(nib, feed, collector) pictured and described above. I also have this nib available in "Fine", "Fine Italic, "Fine Stub Italic", "Fine Oblique Italic", "Fine Oblique, "Fine Reverse Oblique, "Medium Italic", "Medium Oblique Italic", "Medium Reverse Oblique Italic", Medium Oblique", "Medium Reverse Oblique", "Broad Italic, "Broad Oblique Italic", "Broad Reverse Oblique", "Extra Extra Broad Oblique" ...which will likely be offered individually in future auction listings. If available at the time of purchase...upon request of the high bidder, an even substitution request for one of the available nib styles can be accommodated. 3-day return privilege.
