Hurricane MK.IIC Fighter Bomber Mahogany Display Model Plane
The Hurricane MK has one of the most important aircraft designs in military aviation. The Hurricane MK IIC proved its significant role in Britains survival during the Battle of Britain in the summer of 1940. The Hurricane MK aircraft also performed other functions such as flying on nearly every front until the end of the war. The Hurricane MK was the first British monoplane fighter aircraft.
Of all the Hurricane versions, the Hurricane MK IIC is the most mass-produced aircraft. 4,711 of it were constructed. The Hurricane MK IIC first entered the RAF service in May 1941. By the end of the same year there were 57 home based squadrons that were equipped. In 1944, the Hurricane MK IIC departed from RAFs front line fighter. One of the Hurricane MK IICs took part in the heroic and successful defense of Malta in 1941.
The HG Hawker Engineering company selected Camm to be the Chief Designer of the company in 1925. The HG Hawker was the forerunner of Hawker Aircraft Ltd. During the same year Camm designed a monoplane fighter, he realized that big plane fighters could not beat the speed of monoplanes. In 1933, Camms team began designing the new monoplane. Informal design proposals were made to the Air Ministry. After submitting the proposed design, Camm revised it based on new engine tactics. Camm introduced a wide track, hand-operated, retractable landing gear, a retracting tail wheel and an enclosed cockpit.
Testing the Hurricane MK began at once but engine troubles were still present thus the Hurricane Mk IIC was continuously upgraded to increase performance and reliability. After the evaluation, on June 3, 1936, Hawker received a contact order for 600 aircrafts. On the 27th day of June the name Hurricane for Hurricane MK was adopted. The company made 40 Hurricane MKs for three months.
