This fly is commonly called a MOSQUITO but it is also a good representation of a CHIRONOMID. Therefore it is a very productive fly in sizes 12 and 14. Gray in color with a white rib and grizzly hackle. Excellent early season to July and late fall fly. CHIRONOMID hatches occur all year round wherever there is open water. Trout eat more chironomids than any other insect. They are especially effective in the winter and spring when there are few other hatches on still waters. Matching a chironomid hatch is not usually necessary as there are countless different types in the same water and you may get multiple hatches occurring at the same time.
