This is one of the best books on firearms history I have encountered.  It is not a dry technical review of machine guns but rather a detailed history of their development, designers, and their role in combat from the earliest Gatling guns to the modern "saws" of today.  The book is titled "Machine Gun - The Story of the Weapon That Changed the Face of War" by Anthony Smith.  The book has 308 pages of great reading - from the blood soaked trenches of World War I to the rapid moving warfare of World War II and today - this book poignantly reveals the machine guns role in how warfare has changed.  The book is new and unread.  The retail price of the book is $24.95.  The author includes an excellent historical photography section.  A fine book on the machine gun - how it was developed & used on the battlefield literally changing the face of history.  Shipping via Media Mail is $3.95.
