Madame Pompadour Brass Decoupage Vase
Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson, Marquise (later Duchesse) de Pompadour, also known as Madame de Pompadour (December 29, 1721 – April 15, 1764) was a well known courtesan and the famous mistress of King Louis XV of France. Shown here at the height of her beauty in a 1759 portrait by Francois Bouchier, she was surely one of the great ladies of the pre-revolution French court. Standing 18 and ½ inches tall, 9 inches wide and 7 inches deep, this charming piece is created using a decoupage technique that traces it’s ancestry to 17th century Venice, the main image is taken from a period painting, and applied to the solid brass vase, while the background of the image and the remainder of the vase is hand painted, and then covered in numerous layers of lacquer. These vases are hand-crafted and hand painted, please expect some variation and slight irregularities. These are not defects but show the uniqueness
