Maiko Geiko 'SUKIGUSH' Camellia Oil Wooden Tsuge Comb - Used for Augmentation & Cleaning Hair & Japanese Wigs...

This natural wooden 'Sukigushi' cleaning comb is made in the traditional way of real 'Tsuge' wood saturated with 'TSUBAKI' or Camellia Oil. It has two sides - one with normal tongs for combing and one with very fine tongs for removing dust and dandruff. This is an essential item for Geiko & Maiko as their hair styles are very elaborate and if they wash their hair, it has to be done all over again and takes several hours at a special hair dresser. For this reason, Sukigushi are used to with Tsubaki (Camellia) Oil and a little 'Ketabo' to clean the hair without disturbing the hairstyle between trips to the Hairdresser... It measures 4" (10 cm) long and is 2½ (6 cm) wide. It includes a special Kiri-wood handle which can attach to either side depending on which you wish to use. This is a real one made for use by the Geiko of Gion. These come from a shop called KINTAKEDO which is located in the heart of Kyoto's Hanamachi District that has a long history of supplying Kanzashi and Tsuge Combs to the Maiko and Geiko of Gion Kobu. It is printed on one side with the name of this famous shop. MADE IN JAPAN. Tsubaki oil is a traditional beauty product in Japan and it is what the Geiko and Maiko of Gion have used in their hair for hundreds of years. Tsubaki Oil is rich in minerals and nutrients and a has a cleansing and disinfecting quality. It has a wonderful, mild, subtle fragrance. It can be purchased separately from our store.

We ship in large batches and pick-up is arranged with the Post Office about twice a week. Your item goes in the first shipment after it is in stock, packed and ready to go.
