My grandmother was crazy about all things English! Some of my earliest memories are of admiring this gorgeous tea & coffee service, proudly on display in her breakfront.
It's a 1908 Mappin & Webb four-piece sterling silver service with matching tray. It's one of those rare designs that manages to bridge the gap between traditional and modern. It has a clean look, that works today, combined with beautiful, traditional gallery border work on the balusters. The cream and sugar have a lovely gold wash on the interior.
All of the silver is sterling, including the tray, for a total troy ounce weight of 103. The tray is an oval measuring 20" x 12". The coffee pot stands 7-1/4" high and is 6" from handle to spout. The tea pot stands 5" tall and is 9-1/2" from handle to spout. The sugar bowl stands 3" high and is 5-1/2" from handle to handle. The creamer (cream jug) stands 2-1/2" tall and is 4-1/2" from handle to handle.
The set is in splendid condition overall, with some expected wear on the tray (slight scratching) -- but no visible dents or dings on the service pieces!
