Up for auction here is an original 45 year old card issued by Marhoefer Meat Packing Company of Muncie Indiana. Marhoefer has been closed for about 30 years. This card and other cards of different Indianapolis 500 Speedway drivers - cars were placed at the bottom of packages of Marhoefer brand hot dogs and sausages. These brickyard drivers were from the classic FRONT engine era racing days when drivers were the owners of the cars and came from small town America - and who many also drove USAC sprint and midget cars during their careers. Many of these cards had lightly wax covered surfaces and were almost always stained from juices of the meat. A few never made it to hot dog packages as they were smuggled out of the factory by employees (a friend of mine did this) before being placed in the packages.

*CONDITION: This was never in a pack of meat and has no staining or damage of any kind. It is in excellent-plus condition! A extremely nice *well preserved* card. The card has a *very light* wax coating on it. It is highly unlikely that a better example of this card will be found. Nicer looking than the image provided.

The cards were made for a few years in the late 1950s-mid 1960s and in very limited quantities! Sets were made of individual drivers for each year with their current front engine car from about 1959 to the early 1960s and a set was made called "Review of Famous Racing Cars". See below for details of driver and/or car.

This card is from 1964. The card was for A.J. Foyt. The year this card was made Foyt won. So it is a highly sought after card.  This card is the king of this set.  A nicer example probably doesn't exist.

Some of Foyt's accomplishments:
Midget car career
He started his USAC career in a midget car at the 1956 Night before the 500 in Anderson, Indiana. His first midget car win was at a 100 lap event at Kansas City in 1957, and finished seventh in the season points standings.[1] He left midget cars after the 1957 season to drive in sprint cars and Championship Car. He did occasionally compete in midget car events. He won the 1960 and 1961 Turkey Night Grand Prix, the first two years that it was held at Ascot Park. He won the 1961 Hut Hundred after starting last, and finished seventh in National Midget points that year. He won the 1970 Astro Grand Prix, an event that he promoted in his hometown of Houston. He ended his career with 20 midget car feature wins.
Championship car career
In 1961, he became the first driver to successfully defend his points championship and win the Indianapolis 500 race. He raced in each season from 1957-1992, starting in 374 races and finishing in the top ten 201 times, with 67 victories. In 1958, Foyt raced in Italy in the Trophy of the Two Worlds on the banking at Monza.
Also, in 1964 Foyt won a record 10 of 14 races enroute to his championship. He won at the race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway 4 times, in 1961, 1964, 1967, 1977. He was the first driver to do so. The feat has since been matched by Al Unser (1970, 1971, 1978, 1987) and Rick Mears (1979, 1984, 1988, 1991). Of his 67 career championship car race victories, twelve (12) were won at Trenton (NJ) Speedway.

These cards are really hard to find. This is from my personal collection of 30 years. If you collect Indy 500 race items or like Muncie memorabilia, this is a neat item. The size is about the size of a postcard at approximately 4" X 5". Postage is $1.50. I will combine cards to save postage if you are high bidder on more than one card. Thanks for looking! :-)

Every postcard in all my auctions is guaranteed an original - real postcard, and old.
All are the older standard size of approximately 3.5" X 5.5" (unless noted otherwise).
All auctions for postcards show the complete postcard and images are never cropped to avoid showing edges.
eBay images with printing "Another Coasternut eBay Auction" pasted across the image are only on the eBay photo scan of the image and NOT on the original item. Most items are nicer than the scanned image shown here since scanning sometimes distorts the colors and detail - especially on printed or non real photo postcards.
Payment to be made by money order, check or PayPal. Insurance is not required, but is optional at buyer's expense per postal requirements (under $50.00 it would be $1.65). Postage quoted above is for U.S. postage only. Postage to Canada and Europe is slightly more.
Postcards will be mailed in a *rigid* - heavy cardboard postcard mailer. Other items will also be packaged carefully for mailing.

THANKS FOR BIDDING!! :-)
