Though mounted as a thumbnail, this piece with a display face of 3.5 cm. x 2.8 cm. barely fits into its standard plastic thumbnail display case. McGuinnessite, which is also sometimes referred to as "magnesium rosasite"  is rare in Maryland, as is crystalized hydromagnesite. In fact, Hunting Hill is the only locality in Maryland where McGuinnessite has been reported and the one part of the quarry where it was found is gone. As far as I know, Hunting Hill is also the only locality in Maryland where crystalized hydromagnesite has been known to occur. The hydromagnesite radiates, and when viewed with magification, the crystalline botroydal character of the McGuinnessite can be well appreciated.
