This is a Masonic walking cane and has been in my family for 117 years. It was presented to my Grandfather in 1892 upon his induction into the Masons. It is made of ebony, has a 14 carat gold top and is 35 inches in length. I am not antique expert but I have tried to research this cane and have never come across another one like it. The top is engraved " Presented To W.C. Clift by His Masonic Brothers" May 6th, 1892" It has 3 gouges in it....( one near the top, and two down the sides) were my father as a young boy tried to chop off the gold top so he could run away from home ! The chop marks do not penetrate more than 1/8th inch into the wood....so the cane is still very strong and solid. Because the cane is ebony they also do not show in normal use. This is a timeless piece of Masonic history and is would be a fine addition to any collection. |
