This image is intended to be framed for public display at a school, library or business. Henson was a remarkable man whose courage and determination will always be a source of inspiration. To this day no one has even attempted to duplicate his amazing (and dangerous) 1,000 mile round trip dash over the arctic ocean to the Pole and back to land.
This image only appears in the book Matthew Henson wrote himself in 1912; A Negro Explorer at The North Pole—a classic in explorer literature. It shows him before the grueling 1,000 mile dash over the Arctic Ocean to the Pole and back.
 
Henson later met my father, Bradley Robinson, and together they wrote his full biography Dark Companion in 1946. I have restored both these Henson books and republished them to honor Henson and my father.

I then created this colorized version of Matt that reveals the details of his face and tone of his caribou parka. It is a stunning look into the face of a man who risked death to achieve a fantastic goal. It is the face of hope looking back at us from a man who has inspired millions of young people to achieve their goals in life.

Young people need positive role models and Matthew Henson is one of the best!
