This image is intended to be framed for public display at a school, library or business. Henson was a remarkable man whose courage and determination will always be a source of inspiration. To this day no one has even attempted to duplicate his amazing (and dangerous) 1,000 mile round trip dash over the arctic ocean to the Pole and back to land.
This image is one of the most famous photos of Matthew Henson. The National Archives has a copy in poor condition and the New York Explorers Club has a framed print on display.

This photo shows Henson when he returned to the ship Roosevelt after the grueling 1,000 mile dash over the Arctic Ocean to the Pole and back. His face shows the painful exertion & stress of the expedition.
Henson later met my father, Bradley Robinson, and together they wrote his full biography Dark Companion in 1946. I have restored both these Henson books and republished them to honor Henson and my father.

This iconic photo is a stunning look into the face of a man who risked death to achieve a fantastic goal. It is the face of hope looking back at us from a man who survived a 1,000 mile dash over the Arctic Ocean. Henson's persistence has inspired millions of young people to achieve their goals in life.
