“Melody Ear Training”

An Audio, “Hands On” Approach To

Hearing, Mimicking, and Understanding Any Melodic Passage

For All Instruments, All Keys, All Levels

Hello Fellow Musicians!

If you clicked and arrived here, chances are, what I am offering is tailor made for you.

This CD gets to the point

If you are an artist who is tired of music books, CD and DVDs that “beat around the bush,” and offer long, daunting, exercises and over-analysis, you will love this CD. It gets right to the point.

What is this CD?

This CD is Ear Training that teaches to hear Melody lines and be able to mimic or play back, or at least understand, what you just heard.

This is rare, intense, yet enjoyable training that will give you incredible benefits.

How does it work?

On the tracks, you will hear a 2 note or 4 note melodic motif, and then 2 or 4 beats of rests respectively. During the rests, you try to play back what you just heard. Then you will immediately hear another – play it back, and another – play it back, and another etc……

Throughout the 14 tracks you will get melodic training for Major scales, Minor scales, (all 12 keys are used) and the Chromatic scale. (Over 70 minutes on this CD)

During this process, your ears are getting hammered over and over with massive amounts of training in something most musicians spend only a few seconds at. And that is:

- Hearing any melody and being able to play it back on your instrument/voice

This training becomes customized for the listener because you end up developing your ears in the best way that works for you. You may use pitch recognition, relative pitch, your experience as a performer, luck, or a combination of each. It doesn’t matter, the point is, is that it works for you.

If this sounds intimidating, don’t worry. The course starts out with simple 2 note melodies over Major and Minor scales, then graduating to 4 note melodies and then to 4 note Chromatic scale melodies.

What Are Some Of The Benefits Of This Training?

Solo/ Improvisation:  When you improvise, you are spontaneously creating a melody on the spot based on scales and note patterns that fit the chord progression.  This training will directly and dramatically improve this skill!!!!

Transcribing:    Ditto.

Sight Reading/Memorizing Music:    Ditto.

Interacting with other Musicians in a Band:  Ya think?

Listening to recordings of your favorite artists and actually understanding technically what youare hearing:       ......Definately Ditto.

Songwriting/Arranging:  Absolutely....

What is the Theory behind this course?

This CD is based on the theory of what I call “Jump Points.”

For every note of the musical system we use, (12 altogether) there are 11 possible places to jump to.

For example, if you are on the note C, and you want to create a melody, you have 11 possible notes to jump to for your next note: C#, D, Eb, E, F F#, G, Ab, A, Bb, B.

Most melodies are based on a scale or key, however, which narrows down the jump choices. For a melody based on only the notes of the C Major scale, for example, you have 6 possible jump points from C:  D, E, F, G, A, B.

There are 6 jump points for every note of the scale, 42 altogether. So, based on this theory, the first 6 tracks explore all the possible melodic jumps in the Major and Minor scales. You will hear a 2 note melody consisting of the original note and one of its jump points. Then another and another etc…covering every jump possibility of that particular scale.

The point is, to train your ear to be able to pick up any melody based on its jump points.

The explanation sounds complicated, but all you are really doing is mimicking,or playing back what you are hearing.

Track Contents:

Track 1.     2 note melodic motifs of the C Major scale with bass & hi hat accompaniment.

Track 2.     2 note melodic motifs of the E Major scale with bass & hi hat accompaniment.

Track 10. 4 note melodic motifs of the G Minor scale with bass & hi hat Accompaniment.

Track 11.     4 note melodic motifs of the Ab Minor scale with bass & hi hat Accompaniment.

Track 12.     4 note melodic motifs of the B Minor scale with bass & hi hat Accompaniment.

Track 13.     2 note melodic motifs of the Chromatic scale – no rhythm section

Track 14.     4 note melodic motifs of the Chromatic scale with background accompaniment of: Walking Bass & Drums playing 2-5-1 progressions in the cycle of 4ths. (Because the melody lines are random, this track may sound a little weird at first, but it gives you very realistic training)

Art vs. Reality

The reality of being a musician, unfortunately, is that there are a lot of things you want to dive into and master and develop and there are a lot of subject areas that you would like to be much better at.

The problem is that there’s no time!

All of the material in my courses is really great stuff, but most often takes a back seat to jobs, homework, housecleaning, commuting, spending time with your family, fixing the car, etc….. More often than not, you end up only working on these musical skills once in a very great while – which is very sad.

It is for this very reason that my convenient audio and DVD courses have been created! My fellow musicians, this material is custom made for you!!! Use it! Enjoy it!!

And please check out my other courses.  My EBAY user name is: michael401661
