Some are fortunate enough to have antique watches handed down to them as family heirlooms from father to son or mother to daughter.  Others seek them out for their vintage appearance and nostalgic charm.  Some are drawn to their intricate mechanical workings that control complicated chronograph, calendar, alarm, moonphase or tidal data.  Some buy them as quality investments or for their fancy solid gold case design.

Vintage watches afford us the opportunity to wear or collect something truly rare and unique and yet at the same time, magically familiar. Vintage watches are for those who seek quality, craftsmanship and style as a reflection of a lost era, a lost art.

For all these reasons, antique watches are becoming more, and more popular today as people look to the past for something that they cannot buy new at the mega-mall or department store.

Sometimes I will come across a watch that defies categorization and most certainly is unique compared to all the others I have seen. Here is once such example, ca 1880’s gent’s timepiece in a three-piece case. It was made in Switzerland.

This gorgeous, men’s antique timepiece features an ORIGINAL handsome white porcelain enamel dial is in excellent condition, featuring a 60 minute checkered outer track border with black Arabic numenrals, fancy original gold Louis XVI filigree hands, black enamel Roman numerals and a recessed sub-seconds dial with “sweep” seconds hand and 60 second outer chapter and three other chapter rings.

Under the sub-seconds dial is a partially revealed rotating disc which is decorated with two gold moons. As the phases pass the watch reveals the phases of the moon as it waxes and wanes. The other dials show the day of week, date and month functions. These 4 functions can be changed manually by pushing in respective pins on the side of the case. The day and date also change automatically every 24 hours. The moon changes automatically every 48 hours. The month must be changed manually.

It is a registered design model that features a three piece STINELESS STEEL case that provides with glass cover of back lid. STINELESS STEEL case, new custom made, fantastic, build specially for this excellent HIGHER GRADE SWISS movement. 

Peeking inside via the glass lid I find a spotless and high quality THREE FINGER BRIDGE manual wind gold plated lever escapement movement with red Ruby jewels. This beautiful wristwatch has the pristine Original movement in an excellent status which was very well saved, considering age of this watch. Mechanism has been recently serviced to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping great, accurate time.

This is a “NAIL SET” watch so you don’t pull the crown out to set the time. Instead, you press the little button near the crown IN and then move the crown to set the hands, releasing the button once you’re finished. It’s easy, so don’t worry about getting the hang of it!

It is fitted on a new 22mm black genuine leather strap with steel buckle that has a great look to it.

This cleaned, oiled and regulated antique watch winds and sets very smoothly while keeping very good, accurate time.

Because of the vintage nature of the watch I cannot guarantee its absolute time keeping accuracy even if they are in good running condition and in some rare occasions may require additional adjustment.
