  PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING

This is one-half pound of fleece from Esmerelda, a purebred Merino ewe.  A half-pound is an ideal weight; easy to wash and prepare, but enough wool for a scarf or hat or other small projects!

 

She was coated this past year so her fleece is extremely clean, so you spend more time spinning (and less time picking out VM)!  


The fleece is very thick with a fine crimp.  It is extremely soft and fine; perfect for next to the skin projects.  The colors are a lovely shades of French grays with some beige.


This fleece was professionally sheared.  The staple lengths are about 3 inches. 


Please note that since our Merino ewe wool is so fine, it should not be combed.  From our experience and feedback from others, the best way to process this particular Merino ewe's wool before spinning it is with a hand carder or drum carder. 


If you are able to find any specks of dirt or vegetable matter on the tips of this fine fleece, they will wash out easily after a light soak.

About our Flock

 

Our farm is located in the flood plains in the midlands of South Carolina. The climate is warm year-round, and coupled with plenty of rain, allows many varieties of grasses to flourish.  Our sheep graze on these lush grass pastures year-round.  This keeps our sheep extremely healthy and helps to keep our fleeces so clean. 

 

 

 

Our flock is small, with only 35 sheep at present, with pure-bred Merino, pure-bred Jacob, Jacobino (Jacob x Merino) and Shetland crosses.  We visit and interact with all of them twice daily.  This allows us (Karen and Bob) the opportunity to know the personality of each sheep!

 

 

 

We are very pleased with our breeding program, and enjoy bringing out the best characteristics into their fiber.  We look forward to breeding our newest sheep, the Shetlands, with our Merino rams this year. 

 

Shipping and Payments

 

The shipping on this item is via USPS Priority Mail only (no other carriers will be used or considered).  This allows us to offer you a flat rate of $6.30 wherever you are in the US!  Please note that we have added a very small handling fee of $1.50 to our shipping price. This is neccessary to offset the cost of gas needed to bring your package to the post office.  If you order any additional items, no additional handling fees are charged.

 

We now accept only PayPal Payments

 

Orders will be shipped within two business days (usually one!).  You will receive a confirmation number so you can track your shipment.  Since we ship so quickly, you must contact us immediately if you are adding additional orders to your shipment so you can qualify for a shipping discount.
