History of Special Operations Fox Hound
In the late 60s, the US Government set up a special operations group called Force Operation X, more commonly known as the FOX Unit which specialised in solo covert infiltration missions. This unit was disbanded by its CO in 1970 and quickly replaced in the following year by FOXHOUND, a special operations group under the command of 'Big Boss' - a title given to the FOX Unit's foremost soldier by President L. B. Johnson after his successful assassination of the famed American WWII Spec Ops soldier, 'The Boss,' following her defection to a Soviet breakaway group.
The FOXHOUND unit functioned under Big Boss until 1995 when Colonel Roy Campbell took command. Despite new additions to the group, Campbell's best operative was 'Solid Snake,' a soldier who had been recruited by Big Boss in his final year of command. Solid Snake however, retired in 1999 and retreated to the Alaskan wilderness.
In 2000, a former SAS soldier codenamed, 'Liquid Snake' took command of the unit and recruited a unique group of individuals as soldiers, including a former KGB operative and a powerful psychic. In 2005, FOXHOUND was scheduled to oversee the testing of a new weapons platform off the coast of Alaska and rebelled, taking over the facility and the weapon before demanding that the Pentagon turn over the remains of the now dead Big Boss. During this incident a retired Colonel Campbell was brought back in to oversee an infiltration mission to take out the threat, that would be performed by the also retired Solid Snake.
Following this incident, FOXHOUND was disbanded.
