Andrew Van Assche - (andrewsvanassche.com)

"In design, I am drawn to exploring the boundaries of serenity and complexity and to working in the places where they intersect."

In his approach to form, Andrew Van Assche employs an architectural sensibility. The flat planes and sharp corners of his slab constructions suggest structures, softened by grayed hues and matt surface textures. Van Assche's decoration incorporates geometric patterning, kinetic graphics, and minimalist iconography.

Van Assche creates each piece by slab
building, or rolling the piece of clay completely flat and fabricating the shapes from the flat piece of stoneware. Each piece is slowly dried, bisque fired, and decorated using clay slips, washes, and underglaze pencil before the final firing to cone 4 in an electric kiln.
