Bidding has ended on this item. Item:Mini Coushatta Indian Pine Needle Basket by Lizzie John |
Up for auction is a beautifully crafted round vintage pine needle Indian notions basket. It is a miniature, and it is so small and delicate! This basket was woven by a skilled weaver of the Coushatta tribe of Texas and Louisiana named Lizzie John. (It comes with a handwritten slip of paper with the words, "by Lizzie John.") The basket is beautifully round and symmetrical, and just like the larger Coushatta baskets, the lid of this mini has an inner lip so it fits perfectly to the body of the basket. The pine needle coils are tight and the traditional raffia wraps are even and symmetrical. And be sure to check out the photos of it with a dime - incredibly fine weaving!
The basket, as noted, is a miniature version of a vintage Coushatta basket, measuring just 2" across at the widest point and 1½" deep to the top of the slightly rounded lid. Very nicely proportioned! This beautiful vintage basket is in outstanding condition, with no breaks, missing wraps, or any damage whatever. See photos, as they give a true picture of the basket's condition. It's a beautifully made, miniature, genuine, recent-vintage Coushatta Indian basket, and it makes a terrific piece for display.
