This auction is for a Extreamly Rare Black Forest Clock. In all the years I have been collecting Black Forest clocks this is the only example I have come across.

This is a miniature porcelain shield clock commonly referred to as a Jockele.

Jockele are very rare and collectible. What makes this piece unique is it is also a cuckoo. The shield style cuckoo clocks predate the modern cased examples...

Shield cuckoos are also rare and very hard to come by.

What we have here is a combination of two things a rare early miniature and a shield cuckoo.

This example is unique as it also does not have a bird... and it never had it.

Rick Ortenburgers book, Black Forest Clocks... is considered to be the standard English text on Black Forest Horology.

In his book  he has a section dedicated to Black Forest Miniatures. In this section he talks about these miniatures.  On pg 229 he states: " They (miniature shield clocks) were also known to be made with cuckoo bellows. No cuckoo bird was present because the clocks were too small."

There are no photos of suck a clock in the whole book.. just a reference that they were known to be made.

This is a rare bird that is offered here on ebay with no reserve, but I will not give this clock away. The clock is also for sale locally and through several other channels... if the clock does not have good bidding activity on ebay, it will be sold locally... so if your interested let me know..bid early and often.

Best of Luck!
